Why Does Oily Skin, Congestion & Large Pores Happen?

Oily skin and congestion occur when the sebaceous (oil) glands produce excess sebum, leading to clogged pores, breakouts, and an uneven skin texture. Large pores can be caused by genetics, overactive oil production, or loss of skin elasticity, making the skin appear shiny, rough, and prone to blackheads or blemishes.

Excess Oil Production

Oily skin is typically caused by overactive sebaceous glands, which can be triggered by hormonal fluctuations, genetics, or environmental factors. While sebum is essential for maintaining skin hydration, excessive oil buildup can trap dirt and bacteria, leading to congestion and breakouts.

Congested Pores & Breakouts

When oil, dead skin cells, and impurities accumulate in the pores, they become congested, leading to blackheads, whiteheads, and breakouts. If left untreated, congestion can result in inflammation and enlarged pores, making the skin appear rough and uneven.

Large Pores & Skin Elasticity

Pores can appear larger due to genetics, excessive oil production, and loss of collagen over time. As we age, the skin loses elasticity, making pores more visible. Sun damage, pollution, and improper skincare can also contribute to weakened skin structure and pore enlargement.

Incorrect Skincare & Over-Exfoliation

Using heavy, pore-clogging products or over-exfoliating the skin can disrupt the skin barrier, causing the skin to overcompensate by producing even more oil. Harsh cleansers and stripping skincare ingredients may temporarily remove oil but often lead to increased sebum production, worsening congestion.
